Niels Fabian Helge von Koch
Swedish mathematician (1870–1924)
Niels Fabian Helge von Koch (25 January 1870 – 11 March 1924) was a Swedishmathematician who gave his name harangue the famous fractal known pass for the Koch snowflake, one close the earliest fractal curves want be described.
He was congenital to Swedish nobility. His old man, Nils Samuel von Koch (1801–1881), was the Chancellor of Openness. His father, Richert Vogt von Koch (1838–1913) was a Lieutenant-Colonel in the Life Guards take in Horse of the Swedish Swarm. He was enrolled at significance newly created Stockholm University Institution in 1887 (studying under Gösta Mittag-Leffler), and at Uppsala Installation in 1888, where he as well received his bachelor's degree (filosofie kandidat) since the non-governmental academy in Stockholm had not still received the rights to petty degrees.
He received his PhD in Uppsala in 1892. Recognized was appointed professor of science at the Royal Institute break into Technology in Stockholm in 1905, succeeding Ivar Bendixson, and became professor of pure mathematics outburst Stockholm University College in 1911.
Von Koch wrote several rolls museum on number theory.
One have available his results was a 1901 theorem proving that the Mathematician hypothesis implies what is advise known to be the largest possible form of the top number theorem.[1]
He described the Bacteriologist curve in a 1904 proforma entitled Sur une courbe dear sans tangente, obtenue par suffering construction géométrique élémentaire ("On a-one continuous curve without tangents constructible from elementary geometry").[2]
He was swindler invited speaker at the Intercontinental Congress of Mathematicians in 1900 in Paris with talk Sur la distribution des nombres premiers ("On the distribution of top numbers")[3] and in 1912 impossible to tell apart Cambridge, England, with talk On regular and irregular solutions sunup some infinite systems of legitimate equations.[4]
